The HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE is headed to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system which RootMetrics tested as the fastest and most reliable 4G LTE network in the United States among the four major wireless carriers. You may recall that several HTC phones have been delayed due to allegations by Apple Incorporated of copyright infringement. That claim has been settled, and the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE smartphone should be hitting the Verizon Wireless network any day now. While Verizon will not pin down a launch date or retail price, we are hearing rumors of a $149 to $199 retail price with a standard new two-year activation and data plan at select retailers.
The Droid Incredible 4G, the newest member of the Droid Incredible family, delivers Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) and full range Beats by Dr. Dre audio software package out-of-the-box. The handset is typical in size and dimensions when compared to other 4G smartphones, but the presence of Near Field Communication (NFC) support, high resolution display and scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass are above average features for most mobile handsets.
HTC has provided their Sense version 4.0 user interface as an overlay skin for the Android ICS operating system, and the handset draws its power from a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon set of microchips that employees a separate Adreno 225 processor to handle all graphics duties. That frees up the dual core 1.2 GHz Krait central processor to focus on handling your requests as quickly as possible. 8 GB of data storage are built into the handset, and a microSD slot allows for storage expansion, with a full 1.0 GB of RAM memory on board as well.
The 4.0 inch display is a Super LCD capacitive touch screen, and the Gorilla Glass overlay provides glare reduction as well as scratch resistance. The handset uses more than 16 million colors to render visuals, and an above average pixel density of 275 pixels per inch results in an overall screen resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. We don’t have any word as of yet on how much run time comes from the 1,700 mA battery on board the Droid Incredible 4G LTE handset, but we have been told it is an extended life battery.
As for the release date of the Incredible 4G LTE, while there is not confirmation as of yet, it does appear that the new smartphone could be looking at a release date of June 21st – which works out to the normal Thursday releases that Verizon likes.
The 8.0 megapixel camcorder on the back of the handset provides video capture at a high resolution 1,080P HD, and a front facing VGA quality chat cam joins it in the camera combo. Popular online destinations YouTube and Picasa are present out-of-the-box, and Google integration includes such popular applications as Google Talk, Google Search, Gmail and Google Maps. The built-in dedicated mic improves sound quality through the integration of active noise cancellation, and the Droid Incredible 4G allows for simultaneous snapshots and video capture.
