Google released Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the latter parts of 2011 but it wasn’t until the early parts of 2012 that Motorola finally laid bare its plans of getting its handsets upgraded to the latest version of the Google mobile operating system. Back then, the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G was still in the Evaluation and Planning phase of its ICS development and this meant that users of the handset still have to wait a little longer before the handset gets a taste of ICS.
Since then, Motorola was already hard at work in developing the ICS update for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G. Last week, the manufacturer released new information about the status of ICS development for the handset which delighted users of the device. With the latest update, the device is already in the Development phase and the manufacturer announced that the ICS update will start hitting the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G before Q2 ends.
And with the first week of June already gone, Motorola now has less than 30 days to rollout the ICS update for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G if it plans to make good on its promise of giving the handset the Android 4.0 refresh before the end of Q2. Verizon on the other hand has kept mum about the subject and it did not confirm nor deny the announcement made by Motorola.
There are certain reports however that intimate that the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G will get upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich sooner than expected. In fact, a reliable source close to the carrier has confirmed that Verizon is in the final stages of preparation for the ICS update of the handset and will actually start rolling the update out on June 12.
Should this claim of the source pan out, the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G will skip 4.0.3 and will get upgraded to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich directly. The skipping of 4.0.3 is said to be the reason for the numerous delays in getting the handset upgraded to ICS but since we can expect the update to land on the device sooner or later, the least we could do at this point is hope that it doesn’t encounter any more delays than necessary.
