If you are one that has faith in the Microsoft/Nokia partnership and picked up a Windows Phone powered device, you might be wondering why you do not have the popular photo-taking app Instagram yet. A report that came out this week is showing that the Instagram mobile app, owned by Facebook, will be appearing for Windows Phone software. One online source confirms that the app will be available sometime, but there is not exact release date as of right now. One leaked video was said to show the Instagram app on a Nokia Lumia 920, which is set to be released soon, but after some research, the video turned out to be featuring Vimeo and not Instagram.
Microsoft and Nokia are getting set for the reveal of Windows Phone 8 software and new Nokia devices, so it makes sense that the company is looking to get more big name apps into the marketplace before the launch in hopes of drawing in more consumers. Mobile apps like Temple Run, Angry Birds, Flipboard and the aforementioned Instagram are all popular apps that are missing from the Windows Phone marketplace. Instagram has become extremely popular among Facebook users as it allowed you to take a photo, apply certain filters to the photo to make it a bit more creative and post it to Facebook in only a couple of easy steps.
The Instagram mobile app is 100% free and has been downloaded more than 80 million times by those using iOS and Android powered devices. Filters that users can apply include XPro-II, Earlybird, Rise, Amaro, Hudson, Lo-fi, Sutro, Toaster, Brannan, Inkwell, Walden, Hefe, Nashville, 1977 and more. The app also allows you to instantly share your favorite photos via Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, Foursquare and Posterous. The photo-sharing app also allows a user unlimited uploads. With more than 830,000 ratings on the iTunes market the app is rated 4.5 out of 5 stars across all versions.
The new Windows Phone software is rumored to have a release date of October 29th, so it might be that developers are getting in some overtime hoping to have the app ready for the launch of the new operating system. Everybody knows how things can get delayed when it comes to things in the mobile world, so it would be no surprise if the app is not ready by then, but at least it will be coming soon.
