MetroPCS has just added a new handset to their collection of Android offerings. The newest handset to join the ranks is the Huawei Activa 4G. This phone also marks the entry of Huawei into the ranks of 4G capable handset makers as this happens to be their first 4G capable Android phone.
The Activa 4G is a mid-range device and comes with a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen display. Taking care of the imaging side of things is a 5MP camera at the rear. There is a front VGA camera as well for all your video calling needs. The phone also boasts of something known as DTS Envelo Technology for surround sound audio and a GCT single-chip LTE solution. The phone gets a micro SD card slot that you can use to expand the device memory. The phone does come with a 4 GB card out of the box – preloaded with the movie “Kung Fu Panda 2″.
As of now, the device comes loaded with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. There is no word on a possible update to Android 4.0 Icecream Sandwich. But this could be a possibility in the future. That said, even eight months after the official announcement of Android 4.0, it has still not made it to most Android powered devices out there. In fact 70% of all Android handsets still run Android 2.3. That piece of statistic was just to let possible Activa 4G buyers become aware of the act that Android 2.3 is still the most common Android version out there!
The phone is already available in stores as well as online. The Activa 4G has ben priced at a nominal $149. This is of course after a $50 mail-in rebate.
Announcing the launch of the device, Michael Chuang, Huawei USA executive vice president, quipped:
“MetroPCS is committed to providing customers with advanced, flexible and affordable smartphone options through its no-annual contract services, and is the ideal partner for Huawei’s entrance into a new era for smartphones and handsets.”
