The Samsung Conquer may have been a part of Sprint’s lineup of Android-powered smartphones since August but that did not stop MetroPCS in adding the said handset to its own stable. This information came up as rumors floated around intimating that MetroPCS is in the process of beefing up its stable of Android-packing devices and its addition of the Samsung Conquer to its lineup is the first step the carrier is taking.

Well, it is not exactly the Samsung Conquer that is making its way over to MetroPCS but rather the Samsung SCH-R940, which is currently sporting the codename Tikal, a variant of the Spring Samsung Conquer. The only difference that the smartphone headed over to MetroPCS has from the one Sprint has is that MetroPCS’ version of the Samsung Conquer will pack 4G LTE connectivity support whereas Sprint’s offers support for WiMAX.

Sad to say, no info about pricing and availability has gone out yet but we expect the handset to fetch a sub-$200 price point. Let’s go take a look at its specs sheet while waiting for the official announcement from MetroPCS.

The Samsung Conquer from MetroPCS looks very much like its Sprint cousin except for the fact that the one headed to MetroPCS will be available in a gray and black colorway. The handset packs measurements of 116.1 x 60.5 x 11.7 mm and tips the scales at a mere 116 grams. No need to worry about the build quality of the handset despite its being lightweight because it is very sturdy and well-built.

Not much was changed in terms of its internals when comparing this handset to its sprint version. It is based on the SnapDragon platform and comes with a QualComm MSM8655 chipset right smack in the middle of its circuitry to ensure peace and order in its internals. The handset has a single-core 1GHz Scorpion processor supplying the hnadset with computing power while a dedicated Adreno 205 GPU handles all graphical concerns.

The RAM of the Samsung Conquer from MetroPCS comes up to 512 MB and this helps out the processor in running Android 2.3 Gingerbread efficiently. The device is said to come with a full gigabyte of internal memory which is rather measly but can easily be remedied by making use of the handset’s dedicated memory expansion slot in augmenting the onboard storage of the device.

The MetroPCS Samsung Conquer comes with a TFT capacitive touchscreen panel with a diagonal of 3.5 inches. Its resolution is pegged at 480 x 320 pixels and the pixel density on the other hand is at 165 ppi. As expected, the display will support multi-touch input in addition to having all necessary sensors integrated onto the device itself. The handset also comes with a pair of shooters in the form of its front-facing 1.3-megapixel shooter and rear-facing 3.15-megapixe snapper. The rear shooter of the device has geotagging features in addition to being capable of video capture.

The Samsung Conquer will definitely be a worthwhile addition to the lineup of Android-powered smartphones but we are hoping that the carrier will offer this very capable handset at a much lower price point.
