Nokia’s recent fanfare are due to the new Windows Mobile 8 devices that are about to hit the shelves. The new Lumia 920 and 820 as well as their many variants are on Nokia’s center stage for a while now.

One of the best features of the new Windows 8 phones is the PureView OIS camera built into the Lumia 920. This camera feature is but a variation, a predecessor to the phone that started it all, the Nokia 808 PureView.

The Nokia 808 PureView brought the first mobile phone to sport a 41 megapixel super camera. The camera’s astounding high resolution capacity was built to take the most stunning photos on a small mobile device. The resolution alone stumps many point and shoot cameras on the market.

While the camera sensor’s max resolution is 41 Megapixels, the camera produces smaller resolution shots. The point of the large resolution is to enable powerful zooming, as well as very sharp compressed shots by oversampling every pixel. It takes a big picture and reprocesses it to make a smaller one with the full compressed sharpness of a larger photo.

Have you ever tried shrinking a large photo on your PC? As you shrink the photo smaller and smaller, the image seems to get sharper and sharper. The same concept is used on this powerful camera. The camera sensor is also built to take clear shots even in low light conditions, a technology that has been incorporated in the new PureView camera in the Lumia 920.

The phone has received a new update for its Nokia Belle operating system, which improves upon the overall speed of the operating system. The Gallery has been reworked an improved, which is very important for a camera focused devices. The gallery now displays a better understanding of each photo, displaying information such as ISO value, location, file size and resolution. There is also a new Gallery widget for the home screen.

The update also introduces Nokia Car mode, which is perfect for those using Nokia’s superior mapping service while on the road. The update also improves upon the touch keyboard on the device, eliminating input lag that was previously present on the device.

If you are looking into getting a Nokia 808 PureView for you, then you are in luck. Amazon UK has just launched a price cut of £70 for the sim free or out of contract version of the Black Edition and just £25.35 more for the white version.
