If at first glance, the LG Thrill looks familiar, it actually is. You may have seen this handset in other parts of the world where it is called the LG Optimus 3D but when the handset hit US shores, it got the name change. Aside from that, not much has been changed when it comes to the externals and internals of the handset and one can say that the LG Thrill is almost a splitting image of the original Optimus 3D.

Aesthetically speaking, the only noticeable difference on the outside of the LG Thrill is the logo of AT&T stamped on the back of the handset. Other than that, the LG Thrill pretty much retains everything that the Optimus 3D had. To get a better feel of what the handset has to offer, we have the full details of the specs sheet of the LG Thrill coming right up for your reading pleasure.

Design and construction

The LG Thrill has dimensions of 128.8 x 68 x 11.9 mm and tips the scales at a rather hefty weight of 168 grams. The handset has the aesthetics of a slab and almost gets lost in a sea of smartphone slabs until it sets itself apart by showing off the pair of lenses is has at its back panel for its 3D camera.

The power button of the handset can be found on its top edge while the left side of the LG Thrill houses the device’s microUSB and HDMI ports. The right flank of the handset on the other hand contains the 3D button of the handset which activates its 3D mode.

Under the hood

In terms of its internals, the LG Thrill is as impressive as it can get when you take at the components that lurk under its hood. The handset is a veritable powerhouse thanks largely to its Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 chipset which basically gives the LG Thrill a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor with a 1GHz clock speed and a dedicated PowerVR SGX540 GPU that supplies the handset with the necessary computing and graphics power, respectively.

The processor of the LG Thrill gets to work with just 512 MB of RAM but this combination is more than capable of ensuring that the performance of the handset is always buttery-smooth. Lags and stutters were not noticed even when we subjected the handset to severe multitasking and not only did it not crash, it was remained incredibly responsive all the time. As for storage, the LG Thrill comes with 8GB of internal memory which can then be expanded by using the handset’s memory expansion slot. Also, an 8GB microSd card is already included in the retail package of the device.

The display, shooters and 3D performance

The LG Thrill sports a 4.3-inch 3D LCD capacitive touchscreen panel with a 480 x 800 resolution and is covered with a sheet of Gorilla Glass for added protection. Critics claim that the 3D in the LG Thrill is pure marketing ploy but we found the handset’s 3D performance acceptable though the display isn’t ready for full-3D as of yet. Rounding up the feature set of the LG Thrill is the handset’s pair of shooters with a dual-5MP shooter at its back panel capable of 1080p recording at 24 fps in 2D mode and 720p capture at 30 fps in 3D mode and a front-facing video chat camera.
