Motorola Photon 4G Review

Motorola is among the top manufacturers as of the moment when it comes to releasing high-end Android-powered superphones and has done it again with the release of the Motorola Photon 4G. The handset is currently being offered by Sprint and is the top-of-the-line device of the wireless provider. It is also one of the most powerful Android superphones in the market today and in the capable of blazing mobile internet connectivity by taking advantage of Sprint’s 4G network.

The Motorola Photon 4G was announced back in June of last year and it immediately hit the shelves a month later. The handset is a very sexy device as it deviates from the usual black-slab design tradition commonly seen in smartphones today. It measures 126.9 x 66.9 x 12.2 mm and it tips the scales at 158 grams. Despite these numbers, the handset is actually thinner and lighter when held in the hand.

The top edge of the Motorola Photon 4G is home to the handset’s power / lock button and 3.5 mm headphone jack while its left side contains its microUSB and microHDMI connectors. The camera button and volume rocker of the handset on the other hand resides on its right side while its back panel features a metal kick stand making the handset ideal for multimedia consumption.

Specs-wise, the Motorola Photon 4G features an NVIDIA Tegra 2 AP20H chipset right smack in the middle of its circuitry. This SoC gives the device a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor packing 1Ghz of computing muscle which is in turn working in conjunction with 1GB of RAM for a snappy performance in the handset. With this combination in play, every task is expected to run smoothly where apps are launched instantly and webpages load even faster for a better web browsing experience powered by the wireless carrier’s 4G network. A dedicated ULP GeForce GPU on the other hand provides the needed graphical muscle of the handset while the Motorola Photon 4G’s 16GB of onboard storage serves to handle a user’s data safekeeping needs. A dedicated media card slot on the other hand enables memory expansion on the handset should its internal memory run low.

As for its display, the Motorola Photon 4G sports a 4.3-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen panel with a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. In addition to that, a layer of Gorilla Glass ensures that the display of the Motorola Photon 4G remains scratch and scrape-free. The display of the handset is very vivid and crisp which makes it ideal for watching videos, browsing and gaming even while you are on the go. Not only that, the Motorola Photon 4G’s display remains bright even if you are under direct sunlight and its wide-viewing angles ensure that you still get a clear picture even if you are not in front of the handset.In terms of shooters, the Motorola Photon 4G comes with an impressive 8MP camera at its back panel that is also capable of 720p video recording. A VGA snapper at its front panel on the other hand lets you enjoy video chats to the fullest.

With the handset’s solid performance, spectacular display and long-lasting battery life, the Motorola Photon 4G, which comes with a $149.99 price tag on a 2-year contract with Sprint, is without a doubt one of the best smartphones that will give you your money’s worth.
