It looks as though Nokia is currently very busy with the company trying to focus on its stable of Windows Phone-powered devices that the promised Symbian Belle update to a couple of its Symbian-packing handsets, the Nokia X7-00 included, will be delayed to early 2012. We were rather hoping that the Nokia X7-00 will get a taste of Symbian Belle by the fourth quarter of this year as Nokia led us to believe.
Sad to say, we just got word from the Finnish Smartphone manufacturer that the Symbian Belle update won’t land on the Nokia X7-00 this 2011. The company though announced that we can expect the update to arrive in early 2012 but didn’t anything more specific than that. We got indications though that the update will get to hit some parts of the world come February 2012.
The Symbian operating system might as well be dead but since a lot of people are still toting the Symbian Anna-running Nokia Nokia X7-00 and since they went through the ordeal of purchasing a phone running on a dead platform, they deserve to get the Symbian Bell update whichever way you look at it.
While waiting for the said update to land, let us keep ourselves busy instead by reacquainting ourselves with the Nokia X7-00 and the specs sheet that it brings to the table.
The Nokia X7-00 was unveiled back in April and was finally released to the market in June. It packs a rather odd-looking design and the handset has dimensions of 119.7 x 62.8 x 11.9 mm. it tips the scales at 146 grams which makes the handset a bit hefty when you come to think of it.
The Nokia X7-00 doesn’t come with an SoC chipset in its circuitry unlike most aAndroid—powered smartphones but it does have an ARM11 processor running at a clock speed of 680 MHz providing the handset with the processing power it needs. It also has a BroadCom BCM2727 GPU to handle and cover graphical concerns.
In terms of system memory, the processor of the Nokia X7-00 has a meager 256 MB of RAM supporting it in running Symbian Anna, the current operating system of the device. It does have 1GB of onboard storage though which a user can further augment with a microSd card with the use of the handset’s dedicated memory expansion slot.
The Nokia X7-00 comes with a massive 4.0-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen panel with a 640 x 360 resolution and pixel density of 184 pixels per inch. The display of the handset is also scratch-resistant thanks in part to the layer of Gorilla Glass protecting it. The handset only has one camera though and it is a rear-facing 8-megapixel shooter with fixed-focus and a pair of LED flashes. It is also capable of 720p recording at 25 frames per second on video mode.
That being said, we have come to know Nokia as a company which never takes for granted its older handsets by way of updates so we can only hope that the it ensures that the Symbian Bell update will certainly land in early 2012 as users of the Nokia X7-00 can’t afford further delays.
