Verzo is a Czech company that teased its upcoming Android phone a few months back. It was originally slated for a September release but some issues pushed its date back to November. However now it is available for sale for a around 450$.
On the hardware front the Verzo is nothing special. It offers most of what we see on current Android smartphones. It has a TI OMAP 3630 CPU that clocks in at 1GHz, 512MB of RAM and measures 12mm in thickness. On the front is a 4.3” LCD with a resolution of WVGA. The rear houses a 5MP camera and for video calls a front facing VGA camera is available. Tri-band UMTS support (AT&T-compatible), quad-band GSM support, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR comes in as standard connectivity. It has a 1590mAh battery insuring you get through the day under moderate usage. No word on internal storage but a 8GB card comes in bundled.
The hardware looks pretty decent but to really differentiate itself from the usual array of smartphones from HTC and Samsung, Verzo adds some nice value added features. This includes free shipping, refined packaging and a full set of bundled accessories, including a leather case, quality headphones, a car charger and a car holder. On the software front the phone is a tad outdated. It runs Android 2.2 aka Froyo.
No word on if it comes with a custom UI of any sort or not although rumors are that Verzo has done some minor visual customizations. I also hope that Verzo quickly updates the phone to at least Gingerbread because at this time there is no reason for a phone to be running on such an old OS. If they hope to compete with the current big players then quick software updates needs to be the policy for them. On the other hand it is nice to see a manufacturer trying to differentiate itself from the crowd by offering some quality accessories.
This should be a lesson to HTC and Samsung who have done nothing of this sort, although HTC did try by bundling the iBeats headsets with their Beats headphones. Verzo has also gone ahead by including an app called TellME that allows customers to get in contact with Verzo for any bug fixes or feature requests.
